Philips PowerTouch PT720/17

Philips PowerTouch PT720 Electric ShaverThe Philips PowerTouch PT720/17 is another electric shaver from the PowerTouch range, and is equipped with a dual-blade system to give you a close and comfortable shave. Featuring the Super Lift & Cut system, the first blade lifts the hair and the second blade cuts for a smooth shave.

The flexible heads automatically adjust to the curves of your face and neck for a smoother shave.

Some electric shavers are fully waterproof and designed for use with shaving gels and foams, but the PowerTouch range is designed only for dry shaving. However, the shaving head on the PT720 is washable, meaning it is easy to clean after each shave – just rinse it under a running tap. As with all PowerTouch shavers, the head is replaceable too so can be replaced when required (after 2 years is recommended).

The Li-Ion rechargeable battery takes 8 hours for a full charge, and this gives around 40 minutes of shaving. A quick 3 minute charge will give enough power for a single shave, and it can be used cordless or when plugged in to the mains.

Philips PowerTouch PT720/17 Review

The Philips PowerTouch PT720/17 shaver is the cheapest model in the Philips PowerTouch range of electric shavers, and is a good quality entry-level shaver. While it lacks many of the features of more expensive shavers, it provides a decent dry shave at a low price.

The PowerTouch PT720 has a high-quality feel when in use, although feels relatively light, and it fits nicely in your hand. It is also quiet in operation.

This budget price does mean some useful features are missing however. The first one to mention is that charging the battery will take up to 8 hours (compared to 1 hour for more expensive shavers), and once charged the 40 minutes of shaving time is less than average although still a decent length of time if you don’t expect to be away from a power point for too long.

The shaver also lacks a beard trimmer, and isn’t fully waterproof so can’t be used for wet shaves. The waterproof shaving head does however mean this shaver can be cleaned under running water – just press the small button and the shaving head pops open.

If any of these features are important to you, then you should consider the Philips AquaTouch AT890 which is a better performer, but otherwise if you’re looking for a cheap Philips Rotary shaver, then this one won’t disappoint.

Entry level shaver, but excellent for the money.
