The Philips AquaTouch AT899/16 is a wet and dry shaver from the rotary shaver experts Philips. Thanks to the Aquatec seal, this shaver is 100% waterproof so it can be used in the shower, and also with shaving gel or foam for enhanced skin comfort. Of course, it can be used dry too – and then quickly rinsed clean under running water.

The triple shaving heads flex gently to follow the contours of your face, and the rounded heads glide gently over your skin. They are optimised for comfort, and are fitted with slots only. These shaving heads are best for longer hair so this shaver is more suited for shaving every 2-3 days rather than daily.

 The rechargeable Li-Ion battery takes 8 hours to fully charge, and this will give around 45 minutes of cordless shaving. The LED indicator lights show the battery and charging status.

Philips AquaTouch AT899/16 Review

The Philips AquaTouch AT899/16 is a low cost, no-frills wet and dry shaver from Philips, and is definitely worth considering if you’re looking for a cheap, comfortable shaver that you can use in the shower. There are however a number of limitations. Firstly, battery performance isn’t great. It takes 8 hours to charge fully, which is considerably more than many other shavers that we have reviewed (these typically take just 1 hour). Once fully charged, the shaver will give 45 minutes of shaving time which doesn’t compare well to 50-60 minutes of many other models.

Another limitation is that the shaving heads in this shaver are better suited for longer hairs. If you’re looking for a shaver to use daily, then we would advise you to consider an alternative such as the slightly more expensive AquaTouch AT890.

This shaver also lacks a pop-up trimmer, and the battery indicator is very basic too. However if you’re not fussed about having these features, and just want a cheap shaver to use in the shower every few days, then this shaver is ideal.

Comfortable and close shave at a cheap price, but missing key features.
